Why did the San Diego Loyal disappear?

The club announced its closure in September 2023 , explaining that it could not find a solution to continue sustainably , in particular:

1. Lack of a suitable long-term stadium

• The Torero Stadium (6,000 seats) was considered insufficient for the club's ambitions.

• No sustainable infrastructure or public partnership could be found.

2. Direct competition with the future MLS franchise in San Diego

• Major League Soccer (MLS) has confirmed the arrival of a new club in San Diego in 2025 ( San Diego FC ), with major investors (including Mexican club Club Tijuana and billionaire Mohamed Mansour).

• This made it very difficult to sustain a USL club in the same city, without a stadium and without a large independent economic base.
